GURU - Master Copy
Well last week i had a chance to watch the movie GURU for the second time. First time i saw this movie at theatre and i am not much impressed as i always do when i watch maniratnam's movie. But i realized that at first watch we are not actually watching to the movie rather searching for the scenes to satisfy our expectation's.That's the point where some movies fail to impress us. If at all we want to enjoy the movie then we have to throw away the expectations and enjoy the movie for its own presentation. Guru has many things to make you excited. It was directed by the direction guru, Mani Ratnam and the music was composed by music meastro AR Rahman and lot more...
The movie was all about life of Gurukant Desai (Abhishek Bachchan), a dreamer, who lives in a small village and believes in dreaming high. The movie shows how Guru becomes India's top businessman from a small time worker in Turkey and the problem's he faced to achieve the height. This is the bottom line of the movie and the movie was sculptured in several phases.
> The young Guru who leaves India for Turkey to earn more.
> The young mature Guru, who resigns his job in Turkey and comes back to India to start his own business.
> A middle aged businessman, who is a top businessman in India and does not believe in looking back even after he was paralyzed.
From the very first scene itself the movie does not let you move for a single minute, the music, the cinematography, the direction and finally the acting. Everything is just on the right place and very well balanced. I think this movie will be a milestone for Abhishek Bachchan as his acting abilities have been explored very well. This will be the best role of his career so far. Aishwarya Rai played the role of a very simple innocent girl from a small village. And she played it very well. But the movie totally belongs to Abhishek Bachchan. He has delivered a commendable performance. He has a smile that's both boyish and manly at the same time. Mithun Charkavarty has also delivered a wonderful performance. Normally i started to watch hindi films as i am learning hindi. But I saw this movie in tamil version and i could even feel the original touch. The dubbing voices are aptly matched and you cuold feel that in the screen. Madhavan had an important role along with vidya balan and both of them had done a good job over all.
People who have an eye for photography, an ear for audiography and a sense for direction had reasons to rejoice. Rajiv menon has done his best. This movie was named as the most controversial film but whatever it is , the director has handled the subject brilliantly. When formula movies were the order of the day, he framed his own equations. Eventhough the story line has left a documentry feel but then his screenplay has the magic. Each and every scenes is handled with care. Whatever it is, Husband & Wife romance, Business, Arguments, Body Languages, Emotions what else, everything.
I find Maniratnam extremely tasteful when it comes to giving visual appeal to songs. He has a wonderful sense for synchronizing music and images and my guess is that he has a eye for detail in every frame of the song that will be shot and that's what he inputs to his music director. His association with A R Rahman for the past 10 years have been fruitful, to say the least. Rahman's music takes some time to touch us before it becomes a hit - you listen to it for a few days when you don't seem to be impressed much, then you start humming and then the song stays with you. I was totally impressed with all the songs but Paisa Paisa and Jodi Jodi have'nt impressed me much. The background score was totally awesome.
Definitely watch this movie, if you have'nt watched maniratnam movies before. If you're like me, seen almost all of his movies at least twice or thrice, and that too intensely, you may find a lot of parallels here in the way characters are developed and the way the screenplay proceeds. A must watch movie.
